New reporting of payment statistics to the Riksbank from 1 October 2026 – NFC ensures your reporting is in order

Background

The Riksbank’s regulations (RBFS 2025:1) on the reporting of payment statistics will come into force on 1 October 2026. The regulations apply to payment service providers and payment system operators domiciled in Sweden, as well as foreign payment service providers with a Swedish branch.

Payment service providers include credit institutions, payment institutions and electronic money institutions that provide payment services. The reporting frequency (weekly, monthly, semi-annually or annually) depends on the specific payment services that the business provides. The areas and items covered by the reporting obligation are listed below:

  • Instant credit transfers
  • Credit transfers
  • Card-based payment transactions
  • ATM cash withdrawals
  • Cash advance at POS terminal
  • ATM cash deposits
  • Direct debits
  • Money remittances
  • E-money payment transactions
  • Payment initiation services
  • OTC cash deposits
  • OTC cash withdrawals
  • Cards
  • Payment accounts
  • POS terminals
  • E-money card terminals
  • ATMs

Unlike standard authority reporting, submission is fully automated via the Riksbank's API. This places strict demands on file formats, Python-based validation, and secure authentication.

NFC offers a comprehensive, business-specific solution that automates the entire workflow – without the need for advanced technical expertise or complicated installations.

Reporting solution

Data is filled in business-customised Excel templates, designed according to the Riksbank's schemas (up to 17 templates depending on your operations).

The templates are automatically converted to JSON format and packaged according to the Riksbank's schemas.

Data and file structure are checked locally using the Riksbank's own validation rules in Python to ensure correct reporting.

Through a certificate-based authentication and reporting solution, the validated files are sent directly to the Riksbank's API.
